Benni McCarthy continued his brilliant start to life as a manager as Cape Town City beat Bidvest Wits 1-0 in the first leg of the MTN8 Cup semifinals.

Ayanda Patosi was the hero on the day, scoring a minute before the break for his second in a week after netting in the 3-0 win against Platinum Stars.

Wits were not short on chances, with Thabang Monare coming closest just before City found the net, but the hosts were well worth the victory.

The result continued McCarthy's remarkable start as a manager - he has won all four his games on the bench, two in the League and two in the MTN8 Cup.

In the other semifinal played yesterday, Maritzburg United grabbed a 1-1 draw at SuperSport United.
