Roma's Wojciech Szczesny voices sympathy for injured Arkadiusz Milik

Wojciech Szczesny has said he is disappointed not to be facing injured countryman Arkadiusz Milik when Roma take on Napoli this weekend.

Napoli forward Milik has been ruled out for six months after suffering a knee ligament injury while playing for Poland.

And Roma keeper Szczesny was quick to voice sympathy for his international colleague, telling Sky Sport Italia: "In cases like these, rivalry gets put to one side.

"For me he's a friend more than anything, and he's going through a very bad time. This injury is terrible news for him and it is a great loss for Napoli.

"It might suit us [that the threat of Milik is not part of the weekend's game], but all I feel is disappointment."

Napoli, in second place, host third-placed Roma in a match that will see the winner closing in on reigning champions and leaders Juventus in top spot.

"While it's still early days this is certainly a very important game for us, not only because we are up against a side who are ahead of us in the standings by one point but also because we are in good form," Szczesny said.

"We won our last game in the Europa League and then there was the one against Inter too so it's important that we keep on this road and bridge the gap to Juventus."
