Celtic's Stokes questioned over 'assault'

Police have released Anthony Stokes from police custody after arresting the Celtic striker over an alleged assault on an Elvis impersonator in a Dublin nightclub.

Republic of Ireland international Stokes, 25, was questioned at Irishtown Garda station about an incident that happened after the Republic had played Faroe Islands in the city on June 8.

Elvis impersonator Anthony Bradley, 42, was treated for a suspected broken nose and chipped teeth following the incident at Buck Whaley's nightclub.

Dubliner Stokes was arrested on Monday morning and held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act. He was released without charge in the afternoon, and it is understood investigators for the Director of Public Prosecutions are preparing a file.

On Saturday, Stokes had pulled out of a planned appearance at the Celtic store in Dublin, where he had been due to launch the new away kit.
