Saints snap up Pablo Daniel Osvaldo

Southampton have completed the signing of striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo from Roma.

Osvaldo, 27, who had previously been linked with a move to Tottenham, Fulham and Zenit St Petersburg, has signed a four-year contract at St Mary’s.

Spurs were thought to be closing in on a deal for the Italy international, with representatives of Roma reportedly in London this week.

However, the Saints confirmed the transfer on their official website on Sunday evening.

Despite being the Giallorossi ‘s top scorer last season with 16 goals in 29 appearances, Osvaldo fell out of favour at the Serie A club, with supporters taking exception to his conduct on and off the field, making him a scapegoat for their lack of success last term.

The striker was confronted by angry fans at the start of pre-season training, while some even scrawled an insult on the pavement outside his home.

Osvaldo has also represented Huracan, Atalanta, Lecce, Fiorentina, Bologna and Espanyol, while he has won nine caps for Italy, scoring three goals.
