Jores Okore ruptures knee ligaments

Aston Villa defender Jores Okore has been ruled out for the entire season after rupturing his knee ligaments in Saturday's home defeat to Newcastle United.

Villa officials have confirmed the results of a scan performed on the Danish international centre back today and expect the summer signing to be sidelined for a period of nine months.

Okore only joined Villa in June in a £4 million transfer Nordsjaelland and had made a promising start to his career with the Premier League club.

A club statement said: "Following a clinical examination and the results of an MRI scan, the club can confirm that Jores Okore sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in the game against Newcastle on Saturday.

"Jores will undergo surgery in due course and he could be sidelined for a period of up to nine months."

He sustained the injury 30 minutes into Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at Villa Park following an innocuous challenge on Newcastle striker Loic Remy.
