Liam Ridgewell aggravates quad injury, out 6-8 more weeks for Portland

The Portland Timbers will be without Liam Ridgewell for another six to eight weeks after re-aggravating a quad injury in training.

Ridgewell, 32, had just returned to practice with the team last week after sustaining the injury in a 2-0 win against FC Dallas on June 10.

When asked about Ridgewell's status, Timbers manager Caleb Porter told The Oregonian: "Obviously, when you have your best defender and your captain and a key guy, you would like him on the pitch and in training and around the team all the time.

"It's not ideal. It does happen, but the re-injuries, that's one that doesn't happen a lot and you have to start to ask some questions... These are things we have to evaluate, we have to analyze."

Portland plays the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night, and Porter will only have 17 players available with further injuries to Diego Chara, Amobi Okugo and Jack Barmby all nursing knocks of their own.

Porter was at a loss to explain the injury bug his team was currently dealing with.

"I can't imagine there's a club that's more thorough in analyzing all that stuff," Porter said. "But when you get guys injured like we have and when you get re-injuries, there has to be some accountability as well and you have to look at things.

"Trust me, we're looking at everything."
