Portugal hero Eder 'sorry' for France after Euro 2016 glory

Portugual forward Eder has said he is sorry for France after returning to the country just two weeks after scoring the winning goal in the Euro 2016 final.

Eder, 28, netted an extra-time winner as Portugal shocked the host country with a 1-0 victory at the Stade de France on July 10.

After a short break, the former Swansea forward arrived for preseason training at his club side Lille on Monday.

"I didn't have a lot of holidays but it's no big deal," he said in a video posted on Lille's website.

"I'm sorry for France but it's super for us -- for Portugal. I'm pleased. To be champions of Europe is magnificent.

"It was huge because it's the first time that we're champions. It's huge for our country -- everyone is very happy."

Eder, who completed a permanent move to Lille in May, will forever be associated with ending Portugal's long wait for an international trophy. But the ex-Braga striker is now keen to make his mark at club level.

"I'm happy to have scored the goal -- it's brilliant for me," he said. "But I hope to score a lot of goals at Lille as well."
