Zinedine Zidane has told RMC he will remain as Real Madrid Castilla coach next season despite the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.
Zidane saw his young side collapse late this term to miss out on promotion to Spain's second tier in what was his maiden campaign in sole charge of a team.
The former France captain spent the 2013-14 season in the dugout alongside Ancelotti as the Italian's assistant coach.
There is widespread speculation the club are grooming Zidane to eventually take charge of their senior team, but following the appointment of Rafa Benitez, the 42-year-old is staying put for now.
"I'm going to continue for a season with the Castilla. That's what I want to do now. I'm off for a few days, but I'm then going to prepare for next season," Zidane said.
"I'm advancing slowly, I'm not looking too far ahead. I don't have any ambitions for the moment, I'm with the Castilla. We'll see after that.
"Of course, I have taken my coaching badges to coach a top-flight team. But when will that happen, with whom and how? I almost went to Bordeaux last season. It didn't work out."
When asked whether Madrid president Florentino Perez, who signed Zidane as a player in 2001, harbours ambitions of seeing him coach the first team, the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner replied: "Do you think he dreams of that?
"I'm happy to be at Madrid, we'll see what happens. They are going to appoint another coach. They think it's still not the right time for me. That's not a problem."
Zidane has repeatedly stated his admiration for the work of Ancelotti, who led Madrid to its 10th Champions League triumph a year ago before losing his job after missing out on both the European and La Liga crowns this term.
Zidane said he had learned a lot from Ancelotti, but added that the ex-Chelsea boss was fully aware of the cut-throat environment in which he was working.
"It hurts me for the man he is and what he has done," Zidane said. "At the same time, he knew very well how things work in Madrid. He knew that could happen. I have a lot of esteem for the man and the coach. I really appreciated working with him.
"Carlo and I saw each other often. I really worked alongside him, I was right behind him. Each time our paths crossed this year, he always had a kind word for me, and above all, he gave me two or three bits of advice."
