Real Madrid's Lucas Silva joins Cruzeiro on 18-month loan deal

Real Madrid have loaned midfielder Lucas Silva back to Brazilian club Cruzeiro, in a bid to get the forgotten man's career back on track following serious heart concerns.

Lucas joined Madrid from Cruzeiro for €14 million back in January 2015, but did not achieve regular football at the Bernabeu and then had a very disappointing time on loan at Marseille for the 2015-16 season.

The former Brazil underage international was due to join Sporting Lisbon last summer on another loan deal, only for a heart complaint to be detected during the medical, leading to serious concerns over his future career.

Those were dispelled in part when he returned to training with Madrid last January, but the soon to turn 24-year-old was not given a squad number, and is now heading back to his home country on an 18-month loan deal.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube have reached an agreement for the player Lucas Silva to be loaned to the Brazilian club until 30 June 2018," a club statement said.
