Deividas Matulevicius, Arvydas Novikovas score as Lithuania win

Lithuania eased past San Marino as they won 2-0 to kick off their Euro 2016 qualifying bid.

First-half goals from Deividas Matulevicius and Arvydas Novikovas won it for the visitors in front of just 986 fans at the San Marino Stadium.

San Marino only scored once during their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, while shipping 54 goals in their 10 games.

And their leaky defence returned after just five minutes when the visitors opened the scoring as Novikovas crossed from the right and Matulevicius converted from six yards.

But Lithuania, who drew with UAE 1-1 last week, failed to add to the scoreline until nine minutes before the break.

Man of the match Novikovas sealed the points in Group E when he fired into the top corner from the edge of the area.

San Marino held firm during the second half although Mindaugas Kalonas went close to adding to Lithuania's lead late on.

The result leaves Lithuania joint top of the group with England after the first games in qualifying group E.
