Barnsley have been promoted to the Championship after beating Millwall 3-1 in the League One playoff final at Wembley.

The Tykes took the lead inside the first two minutes when Ashley Fletcher gotk possession after Sam Winnall flicked on a long goal-kick and fired a finish across goalkeeper Jordan Archer and inside the far post.

The early breakthrough spurred the Yorkshire side into a spell of pressure and possession, with Adam Hammill firing over the bar from distance and Fletcher denied by an Archer save.

But they doubled their lead in spectacular fashion after 19 minutes when Hammill curled an outstanding finish over Archer and into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Neil Harris's Millwall were rocking -- but they found a route back into the match from a corner with 34 minutes gone.

Defender Mark Beevers, born in Barnsley, turned away from his marker as the ball broke to him and thumped an effort past goalkeeper Adam Davies.

Millwall striker Lee Gregory appeared to have half a chance early in the second half before the ball bobbled through to Davies, and Hammill scuffed a low shot straight at Archer at the other end.

As the clock ticked past the hour mark in a scrappy second half, Morison's cross caused problems before Aiden O'Brien's bouncing effort was held by Davies.

And the Londoners were made to pay for not taking that chance when Lloyd Isgrove got ahead of goalkeeper Archer to head home Barnsley's third goal.

Davies made a late save to deny Chris Taylor, but Barnsley held on for what turned out to be a comfortable victory.
