Columbus Crew SC stays hot by beating D.C. United

Columbus Crew SC extended its sizzling start to the season by thrashing D.C. United 3-1 on Saturday.

Despite uncertainty over the club's future in Ohio, Columbus is still unbeaten and has won three out of its first four games.

Milton Valenzuela put Columbus ahead in the 20th minute after controlling a Cristian Martinez pass in the box and scoring through traffic in front of the net.

D.C. equalized 10 minutes later, though, as Yamil Asad delivered from 18 yards out.

But Columbus added two goals at the end of the first half to build an insurmountable lead.

Ricardo Clark scored with a looping header following a Federico Higuain corner in the 40th minute, before Pedro Santos added another on the counter-attack two minutes later.

Higuain's assist on Clark's goal was the 50th of his MLS career, making him the 19th player in league history to score 50 and set up 50.

Columbus pulled level with New York City FC at the top of the Eastern Conference, while D.C. is still looking for its first win after two draws and two defeats to begin the season.
