Colorado Rapids shut out slumping FC Dallas

Michael Barrios scored his fourth goal of the season and his second against his former team as the Colorado Rapids completed a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Dallas on Wednesday night in Commerce City, Colo.

Lalas Abubakar added his first goal of the year as Colorado extended its unbeaten run to a season-high four matches.

The Rapids also finished their three-match season series with Dallas having earned seven points from a possible nine while registering shutouts in all three matches.

Dallas actually held the majority of the possession and led 10-9 in shots on Wednesday. However, only two of those efforts hit the target as the visitors remained last in the Western Conference following their third consecutive defeat.

Dallas has conceded goals in 13 consecutive games after opening the season with a 0-0 home draw against Colorado.

FC Dallas have now been shut out six times in the first year since sending Barrios to Colorado in a trade.

The 30-year-old forward had 31 goals and 45 assists in six seasons with Dallas, and he now has four and four, respectively, for the Rapids.

Abubakar gave Colorado the lead three minutes after halftime on a well-worked corner kick.

As Jack Price prepared to take the corner from the left, a cluster of Rapids players that included Abubakar lined up just beyond the penalty spot.

Abubakar used that mass of bodies to peel away from his defender and show up unmarked at the back post. He hammered an open header past goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer from about 6 yards out.

Barrios doubled Colorado's lead seven minutes later in a moment Maurer will want back.

After reaching Diego Rubio's long service down the left, Barrios cut inside and unleashed a shot that dipped and curled toward the base of the far post.

Maurer appeared to have it covered, but as he dove, he failed to make contact with the ball. It skipped past him and into the right corner.
