Alejandro Bedoya and Daniel Gazdag scored three minutes apart early in the second half, as the visiting Philadelphia Union rallied for a 2-1 win over CF Montreal on Saturday. Montreal led 1-0, via Lassi Lappalainen's tally just past the half-hour mark and appeared to increase its advantage just four minutes into the second half. And, a deflating moment for Montreal (0-2-0, 0 points), which was trying to bounce back from a season-opening 2-0 loss at Orlando City SC. Four minutes after Montreal's goal was disallowed, Philadelphia leveled the match through Bedoya, who left-footed a shot through traffic and by keeper Sebastian Breza (two saves) in the 53rd. Three minutes after that, the visitors took the lead when Julian Carranza got behind the Montreal defense and found Gazdag in the box to convert. However, the Union found themselves in a tight spot after Carranza was sent off in the 71st minute following his second yellow card of the match. Despite finishing with 10 men, Philadelphia dug deep, held firm and improved to 3-0-2 in the last five versus Montreal. While Montreal pushed within the first 10 minutes of the match, the game's first serious scoring chance came from the Union. In the 15th minute, Carranza delivered a blistering right-footed attempt that Breza dove to save. However, it was the home side to open the scoring at the 32-minute mark. On a rather methodical setup inside the box, Ismael Kone put the ball on the foot of Lappalainen, who, from the top corner of the box, softly struck a shot that nicely floated over the head of Philadelphia goalkeeper Andre Blake (four saves), and in for Montreal's first MLS goal of 2022.
