Lyon take over at the top with easy three-goal win vs. Toulouse

Lyon took over top spot in Ligue 1 on Sunday with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Toulouse.

Alexandre Lacazette's first-half brace set the hosts on their way, and Nabil Fekir sealed matters with a third goal at the start of the second half.

The result lifted Les Gones a point ahead of Marseille, who went down 2-1 at Montpellier on Friday night, and left TFC just one point above the drop zone.

Hubert Fournier's side needed just 13 minutes to take the lead at the Stade de Gerland, and came courtesy of a helping hand from the visitors.

Oscar Trejo surrendered possession to Maxime Gonalons, who freed Fekir. He sent a perfect cross towards Lacazette, who despatched a low volley past Ali Ahamada.

Ahamada did well to keep it at just 1-0 eight minutes later when he kept out a snap-shot from Christophe Jallet after Rachid Ghezzal's neat lay-off.

Just before the half-hour mark it was 2-0, though, as Lacazette posted his fourth consecutive double.

Jallet was the instigator again when he released Corentin Tolisso, whose cross found Lacazette and he fired powerfully beyond Ahamada.

Toulouse almost found a route back into the game moments later when Martin Braithwaite brought the ball up and fed Panxti Sirieix on the edge of the area, but his right-footed attempt brushed the post on its way wide.

And, two minutes after the restart, the game was put to bed as Rachid Ghezzal freed Fekir, who sent a right-footed shot past Ahamada.

Braithwaite was inches wide once more in the 81st minute as Toulouse continued their bid to get on the scoresheet, and the Dane was further frustrated in stoppage time when he saw a superb solo run end with another shot which hit the post.

OL too had their chances late on, though, and could even have stretched their advantage had Yoann Gourcuff not directed his effort straight at Ahamada when well placed three minutes from time.
