Napoli 1-0 Trabzonspor

Napoli cruised to a routine victory over Trabzonspor and confirmed their last-16 place in the Europa League in the process on Thursday night.

Having won last week's first leg 4-0, Rafael Benitez's men had the one task of avoiding capitulation to complete.

They did just that, with Jonathan de Guzman's goal getting them a 1-0 win on the night and a 5-0 one on aggregate.

Not that they needed to but Napoli got a hold of the game from the off, Dries Mertens drawing a save from Hakan Arikan.

Jose Callejon also got an attempt in and then, 19 minutes in, De Guzman put the Italians in front.

Arikan saved from Callejon but no-one picked up De Guzman on the rebound and the former Swansea man put into an empty net.

The play continued to flow towards the visitors' goal and De Guzman passed up an opportunity for a second, before Trabzonspor woke up, Mehmet Ekici's long-ranger tipped over by Rafael Cabral.

The Turkish side's race had long since been run, though, and with them behind on the night and overall, there was little for them to play for.

Consequently the evening turned into something of a training session for Napoli, with Faouzi Ghoulam and Jorginho both taking aim and working Arikan.

Callejon also drew a stop from the keeper, hit the post and then forced another save as it became a one-man show .

Mertens interrupted his demonstration with a shot that Arikan denied, but a second goal was far from necessary.
