Mitch Rose effort enough as Grimbsy boost survival hopes at Swindon

Mitch Rose's penalty provided a massive boost in Grimsby's efforts to beat the drop and all but ended Swindon's play-off hopes after they were beaten 1-0 at the County Ground. The 23-year-old struck in from the spot to score for the third game in a row - and his eighth of the season - to keep the visitors five points ahead of the relegation zone.Swindon's Paul Mullin found the back of the net in the 30th minute but he had his effort disallowed after punching the ball in with his hand. The home side did not have to wait long for another chance though and almost took the lead through Marc Richards when he rifled his shot against the crossbar. In first-half injury time, Grimsby's Harry Cardwell was fouled by Ryan McGivern in the box, leaving Rose to drill his penalty into the bottom corner. Swindon's best chance to equalise came in the 52nd minute when Matt Taylor played a short free-kick to Keshi Anderson, who had a teasing shot saved by James McKeown and the away side held on for maximum points.
