Aron Johannsson rallies Werder Bremen to draw at Gladbach

American forward Aron Johannsson scored the equaliser as Werder Bremen rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday.

Monchengladbach had seemed on course for a second-straight win after their 1-0 victory at Hannover that ended a run of four defeats, but Bremen had other ideas.

Switzerland star Denis Zakaria struck first, before Thorgan Hazard bagged his eighth league goal of the season, as the hosts took early control.

The tie turned on its head after the break though, as Denmark midfielder Thomas Delaney struck on 51 minutes to alter the game's complexion and stress the previously unflustered hosts.

Johannsson, who had entered the game as a substitute at half-time, slammed home the equaliser from seven yards out in the 78th minute to earn a share of the spoils.

The goal was another step in a remarkable comeback for Johannsson, who had not started a Bundesliga match since September 2016 until coach Florian Kohfeldt, who took over in late October, opted to play him on the wing instead of in a more central position.

He scored in a cup match last month and started two games in the Bundesliga, but played the role of the super-sub against Gladbach on Friday.
