Marcus Rashford strikes as Manchester United win at Leicester

Marcus Rashford's early goal was enough to give Manchester United a 1-0 win at Leicester and secure a ninth win from 10 games in charge for caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rashford rifled home from an outstanding pass by Paul Pogba, with David De Gea denying Jamie Vardy and Rachid Ghezzal to ensure United took all three points.

It took Leicester, whose previous game had seen them draw 1-1 at leaders Liverpool, only a couple of minutes to win the first corner, which was glanced well wide by Wilfred Ndidi.

But with five minutes gone United missed a great chance to open the scoring when Luke Shaw crossed from the left and the unmarked Rashford headed over.

Crosses from Ashley Young and Victor Lindelof soon followed, leading to a corner from which Kasper Schmeichel denied Rashford.

United were finding plenty of space in midfield, and after nine minutes they took the lead when Pogba floated a superb ball to Rashford, who controlled and blasted home to mark his 100th Premier League game in style.

Leicester were being outplayed but were almost level after 15 minutes when James Maddison found room inside the area only to be denied by a block from Shaw.

Jesse Lingard, booked for fouling Maddison, failed to control a Namanja Matic through ball as United went back onto the attack, and Maddison's low shot was easily saved by De Gea.

Eric Bailly blocked Demarai Gray's effort with Leicester trying to up the tempo, the defender needing a spot of treatment afterwards.

Jamie Vardy, struggling to get into the game, was booked for a bad challenge on Lindelof, and with the first half heading towards its final five minutes former United defender Jonny Evans headed wide.

Matic was booked for fouling Ricardo Pereira inside the United half and, from the free kick, Harvey Barnes sent a curling strike wide from outside the area.

Nampalys Mendy followed Matic into the book for a clattering challenge on Ander Herrera and, when Mendy gave the ball away, Rashford's low strike was saved by Schmeichel.

Pereira hit a shot from the edge of the box straight at De Gea, who gathered as United went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

Leicester made a positive start to the second half, Barnes firing wide before Maddison steered the ball into the side netting with Vardy waiting in the middle.

Barnes produced a dangerous cross, cleared by Lindelof, as the home side kept up the pressure, but United had a chance to break when Rashford raced into space only to fail to find the right pass for Alexis Sanchez.

Rashford blasted wide before Leicester won a dangerous free kick 25 yards out, Matic fouling Vardy and De Gea making a fine stop from the striker's acrobatic effort after Maddison's shot deflected off the wall.

Ghezzal came on for Maddison moments later, the home fans unhappy that the midfielder had been taken off, and Ndidi blasted a wayward effort into the stands.

Sanchez, who struggled to make an impact, was replaced by Anthony Martial, and a low Barnes cross from the left skidded through the penalty area with nobody in blue able to get on the end of it.

Claude Puel made another change as the game approached its final quarter of an hour, Gray making way for Shinji Okazaki, and De Gea made a good stop when Ghezzal curled a free kick towards the top corner.

Romelu Lukaku replaced Rashford for United, for whom Shaw was booked for a clumsy tackle, before Evans miskicked inside the area as time began to run out for Leicester.

Ghezzal became the latest player into the book as, despite bringing on Kelechi Iheanacho for Mendy, Leicester failed to find an equaliser when Vardy shot at De Gea, while United almost grabbed a late second through Lukaku.

The visitors, who brought on Phil Jones for the closing moments, came close again when Schmeichel beat away Martial's strike, while Martial and Ndidi were shown yellow cards for late fouls and Harry Maguire bobbled an effort wide in the final seconds.
