Toronto ruins Cabrera's debut as Impact boss

Justin Morrow's goal in the 81st minute capped the comeback as Toronto FC defeated visiting Montreal 2-1 on Saturday to ruin the debut of Impact coach Wilmer Cabrera.

Toronto (10-10-7, 37 points) moved into the seventh and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with seven matches left.

TFC is a point behind New England after its first win in four games.

Bojan Krkic gave Montreal (10-14-4, 34 points) the lead in the 49th minute before Marco Delgado tied it in the 63rd. Krkic's goal was his first in MLS.

Morrow took a short pass from Michael Bradley and put a shot on target that went off goalkeeper Evan Bush for the defender's first goal since July 4, 2018.

Cabrera was named head coach Wednesday after the firing of Remi Garde. Cabrera was relieved of his coaching duties with the Houston Dynamo on Aug. 20.

Montreal is 1-7-1 in the past nine games.

Krkic made his third appearance after the Impact signed the former Barcelona and Stoke City striker on Aug. 7. He showed why with a low liner to the left corner from 30 yards for the Montreal lead.

Toronto got the equalizer after pressure on Bush. Bush parried a cross by Jonathan Osorio outside the box, but Delgado was 22 yards away when the ball came to him and he immediately struck it.

It was his first goal in his 23rd match this season.

Montreal has lost seven straight on the road, being outscored 21-11, since a 2-1 win vs. the New York Red Bulls on May 8.

The Impact is tied with Colorado for allowing the second-most goals in the league (52), including 14 in the past four games.

Toronto is 4-1-2 in the past seven home games with the lone defeat coming to Cabrera's former club, a 3-1 loss to Houston on July 20.

The Impact hosts Vancouver on Wednesday. Toronto is at New England on Aug. 31.
