FC Dallas shut out 10-man D.C. United

Mosquera gives Dallas the lead over D.C. (0:44)

Major League Soccer: Harold Mosquera (6') FC Dallas 1-0 D.C. United (0:44)

Santiago Mosquera scored his first goal of the season and helped set up another, leading FC Dallas to a 2-0 victory over a D.C. United team that finished with 10 men on Thursday night at Frisco, Texas.

Dominique Badji capitalized on Mosquera's setup work to add his fifth goal of the year for Dallas (8-7-5, 29 points), which stretched its home unbeaten run to five matches and climbed four spots to third in the Western Conference.

Even on points, Dallas is now ahead of the Sounders via a plus-4 goal differential to Seattle's plus-3.

Following a video review, Luciano Acosta was sent off for D.C. (8-5-7, 31 points) in the 73rd minute for stepping in the area of Paxton Pomykal's face, on a night his team's winless streak on the road grew to five matches. Acosta had entered the game only 15 minutes earlier.

The visitors might have finished with nine players after referee Nima Sighafi produced a red card for Wayne Rooney's first-half tackle of Michael Barrios. However, on that occasion, a replay review resulted in a reduction to a yellow card.

By then, Mosquera had already put Dallas in front in the sixth minute.

D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid dived right to push away Brandon Servania's initial shot from outside the penalty area. Ryan Hollingshead reached the rebound on the left and curled a cross back into the area. Bressan flicked it across the face of the goal, and Mosquera deflected it inside the right post and beyond Hamid.

D.C. enjoyed its best spell of the match after Rooney's reprieve, with Rooney's 42nd-minute header forcing Jesse Gonzalez into his only save of the evening. Hedges lunged to tackle away the rebound just in time with Rooney pressuring.

Badji doubled Dallas' lead in the 65th minute. Mosquera cut in from the left against Leo Jara, and he had his first shot cleared directly back to him by Frederic Brillant.

Mosquera's second shot forced Hamid into a lunging save, and Badji was at the far post to guide the rebound into an open net.
