Two own goals help Dallas down Sounders

FC Dallas benefited from a pair of own goals to snap its six-game winless skid with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Seattle Sounders on Saturday in Frisco, Texas.

Dallas (6-6-3, 21 points) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after Ryan Hollingshead's header caromed off Seattle defender Xavier Arreaga and into the net. Arreaga, however, redeemed himself in the 83rd minute by heading away a cross for Dominique Badji on a potential scoring chance.

Dallas doubled the advantage in the 38th minute as Michael Barrios' attempted centering feed was inadvertently driven into the net by Seattle's Brad Smith.

The unconventional offense proved to be enough for Jesse Gonzalez, who finished with one save for Dallas.

Prior to Saturday's match, Dallas had been outscored 10-4 during its 0-4-2 run since April 27.

Raul Ruidiaz scored in the 65th minute and Stefan Frei made one save for Seattle (7-3-5, 26 points), which fell to 0-3-3 in its past six contests away from home.

Ruidiaz, who scored in the Sounders' 3-2 setback at Sporting Kansas City on May 26, trimmed the deficit after his shot from outside the box deflected off the foot of defender Matt Hedges and into the net. The goal was Ruidiaz's sixth of the season.

The start of the match was delayed by nearly two hours due to lightning in the area.

Dallas attempted to add to its 2-0 lead in the second half as Bryan Acosta raced up the middle of the pitch before sliding a feed to Jesus Ferreira, but a sprinting Hedges was able to break up the play from behind.

The Sounders played without midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro, who served a one-game suspension for yellow-card accumulation.
