Rooney, Schweinsteiger meet in D.C., Chicago draw

Rooney's D.C. held to 6-goal draw by Schweinsteiger's Chicago (2:27)

D.C. United fought back to a late lead then conceded an even later equalizer, eventually settling for a 3-3 draw against the Chicago Fire. (2:27)

Francisco Calvo scored two minutes into second-half stoppage time to lift the visiting Chicago Fire to a 3-3 draw with D.C. United on Wednesday night.

Calvo's first goal of the season came after the Fire saw their 2-0 first-half lead evaporate thanks to two goals by United's Ulises Segura on either side of half-time, and then Luciano Acosta put United up 3-2 with his goal in the 81st minute.

Eastern Conference-leading D.C. (7-4-5, 26 points) trailed 2-0 after the opening 15 minutes.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid made eight saves for D.C., which saw its winless streak extended to four games (0-1-3).

C.J. Sapong scored his sixth goal of the season and Djordje Mihailovic also tallied for the Fire (4-5-6, 15 points).

Acosta put D.C. ahead when he took a cross from defender Leonardo Jara and put a diving header from six yards out into the left corner of the net.

Segura tied the score in the 61st minute with his second goal of the game and third of the season. He took a long pass from Jara on the right wing, got behind the defense, and corralled the ball at the top of the penalty area before banking in a low, 10-yard shot off the left post.

D.C. got on the board in the 43rd minute following a Chicago turnover near midfield.

Wayne Rooney got the ball and drove toward the top of the 18-yard box, then made a pass to a wide-open Segura on the right side. Segura slipped a shot under charging Chicago goalie Kenneth Kronholm.

D.C. thought it had tied the score in first-half stoppage time as Lucas Rodriguez took a pass from Rooney and put a rebound of his own shot into the net, but a video review showed Rodriguez knocked the ball away from Kronholm with his left arm after the initial save, and the goal was disallowed.

Sapong opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Nicolas Gaitan's free kick from about 25 yards out found Sapong just outside the top of the six-yard box, and Hamid was only able to slightly slow Sapong's header with his left hand.

Mihailovic made it 2-0 just two minutes later as his 30-yard shot deflected off midfielder Junior Moreno at the top of the 18-yard box and behind Hamid.
