Mexico thrashes Bermuda in its CONCACAF Nations League opener

Hirving Lozano had a goal and an assist as Mexico eased to a 5-1 win over an outmanned Bermuda side in the CONCACAF Nations League on Friday night.

Mexico dominated possession and chances, but didn't get on the scoreboard until the 25-minute mark when Hirving Lozano's through ball found Uriel Antuna and the LA Galaxy forward beat the keeper for an easy tap in to make it 1-0.

Jose Macías added a classy second for Mexico right before half-time, burying his shot into the roof of the net after Christian Calderon headed a cross right into his path in front of the Bermuda goal to double the lead.

Mexico added its third goal of the night again through Macias, but Bermuda clawed one back from a corner kick move right off the training ground with Nahki Wells curling one past Rodolfo Cota to put the score at 3-1.

The hosts' joy was short-lived though, as Lozano added a goal to his earlier assist with a stellar volley on the run to beat Dale Eve and restore Mexico's three-goal lead.

Hector Herrera curled in a beauty from the left flank to pad Mexico's lead as the gulf in class against the Carribean competition began to show as the second half progressed.

Mexico next faces Panama in the Nations League on Oct. 15 at the Azteca Stadium with the chance to take over top spot in Group A2.
