Robin Lod lifts Minnesota United past Real Salt Lake

Robin Lod scored two of Minnesota's four second-half goals, and Chase Gasper and Jacori Hayes also scored, leading United to a 4-0 win over visiting Real Salt Lake on Sunday night at Allianz Field.

The match marked the successful Major League Soccer debut of goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, who posted a clean sheet with three saves. Recently signed designated player Emanuel Reynoso made his first start for the Loons in the midfield, and got the assist on Lod's 62nd-minute goal.

The 53rd minute saw Minnesota United break through, with Gasper opening the scoring. The defender's first goal of the season was the result of his hustle from out of the back.

Gaspar zipped down the left side to get to a pass from teammate Kevin Molino and slotted a shot past RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath on the run.

Later, Lod saw open field after a long ball from Reynoso and had no defender in his way. Thirteen minutes later, Molino, who had two assists, helped Hayes get his first goal in more than two years in the 75th minute.

Lod scored again just before the final whistle.

Real Salt Lake couldn't get a shot past the 23-year-old St. Clair, who got a clean sheet in his debut. St. Clair got his chance with No. 1 goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh struggling of late.

The visitors had rallied for draws in recent matches against two of the MLS Western Conference's contenders, the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers, but couldn't come back on Sunday.

A Real Salt Lake goal from Nedum Onuoha in the 26th minute was nullified on video replay, when it was ruled that RSL was offside on the play. That kept the game scoreless.

Minnesota lost captain and midfielder Osvaldo Alonso in the 18th minute with a hamstring injury.

Molino just missed a chance in the 36th minute, shooting the ball just wide left of the goal after a run into the box.
