Musovski nets pair as LAFC down Sounders

Danny Musovski highlighted his second career MLS start by scoring twice to lift host LAFC to a 3-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday.

Francisco Ginella added his first career MLS goal in the 65th minute and Pablo Sisniega made four saves for LAFC (7-6-3, 24 points), who averted a three-game regular-season sweep by Seattle. The Sounders (9-4-3, 30 points) posted a 3-1 win over LAFC on Aug. 30 and a 3-0 victory on Sept. 18, although LAFC recorded a 4-1 triumph over Seattle in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament on July 27.

Captain Nicolas Lodeiro scored in the 77th minute and Stefan Frei finished with two saves for the Sounders, who saw their three-match winning streak come to a halt.

LAFC played without four of their top on-field producers who were competing in the CONMEBOL 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Their absences ultimately led to Musovski making the start.

Musovski didn't disappoint, as he gained a step on his defender and headed home Eduard Atuesta's kick off a set piece to open the scoring in the 15th minute.

Ginella doubled the advantage 50 minutes later by unleashing a right-footed shot from outside the box that caught Frei flat-footed.

Lodeiro converted a free kick in the 77th minute for his fifth goal of the season and third versus LAFC.

Musovski regained the two-goal edge seven minutes later for LAFC after settling a rebound of Latif Blessing's shot before sending the ball inside the left post. The goal was the 24-year-old Musovski's fourth of the season.

LAFC's victory was all-the-more impressive after they sustained a pair of injuries in the early going. Mark-Anthony Kaye exited with an apparent ankle ailment following a collision with Seattle's Yeimar Gomez Andrade. He initially was replaced by Andy Najar, who sustained an apparent hamstring injury.

LAFC also competed without Golden Boot-leading Diego Rossi (Uruguay), Brian Rodriguez (Uruguay) Diego Palacios (Ecuador) and Jose Cifuentes (Ecuador) due to international duty.
