Augsburg stays in trouble after Eintracht Frankfurt draw

Augsburg recovers from a goal down to earn a valuable Bundesliga point vs. Eintracht Frankfurt.

European hopefuls Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 at FC Augsburg on Sunday to make it two games without a win in 2022 as they missed out on a spot in the top six.

The visitors were the better side but despite a dominant second half they could not find the winner.

They remain in eighth place on 28 points, three off fourth-placed Hoffenheim and two off Freiburg, who are sixth.

With American teenager Ricardo Pepi making his first Bundesliga start, Augsburg began well before Daichi Kamada completed a quick break by rounding the keeper to put Eintracht in front.

Michael Gregoritsch continued his recent scoring run with his fourth goal in seven matches when he rifled in seven minutes before the break to level.

The visitors were more aggressive and poured forward in the second half and another Eintracht effort landed in the goal but was ruled out for a foul.

Augsburg keeper Rafal Gikiewicz also made a double save three minutes from the end to protect their point as they secured their third draw in their last four games to move out of the relegation playoff spot and into 15th.

His Eintracht counterpart Diant Ramaj responded with a superb save of his own deep in stoppage time to deny Florian Niederlechner in the box.
