Ola Kamara on target as DC United tops FC Cincinnati in stoppage-time

Ola Kamara scored on a penalty kick in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time to give D.C. United a 1-0 victory over host FC Cincinnati on Saturday night.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid preserved the victory with a tremendous save two minutes later. Hamid finished with six saves and earned the 80th shutout of his MLS career.

D.C. United was playing a man down and the game appeared to be headed for a draw before FC Cincinnati's Geoff Cameron was called for a hand ball in the box. Kamara stepped up to the spot and began his approach, briefly paused and then sent a right-footer into the lower left corner past diving Cincinnati goalkeeper Alex Kann.

Cameron almost made up for the gaffe in the 10th minute of stoppage time when a pass from Ian Murphy came his way. But Hamid was ready and made the save on Cameron's close-range header.

The shutout was Hamid's second straight this season as D.C. United (2-0-0, 6 points) remained undefeated (four wins, three ties) in seven games against Cincinnati.

FC Cincinnati (0-2-0, 0 points) has yet to score a goal this season.

D.C. United played a man down during the final 19 on-field minutes, including the 10 in stoppage time. Moses Nyeman was initially given a yellow card in the 78th minute but it was reviewed and upgraded to a red card in the 80th minute. When play resumed in the 82nd minute, Cincinnati was unable to take advantage on the free kick.

Cincinnati outshot D.C. United 16-10. Kann made two saves.

In the 65th minute, Cincinnati's Yuya Kubo sent a hard right-footed shot that was just wide of the left post. One minute later, Kamara sent a header wide right of the net.

Cincinnati had a goal waved off in the 22nd minute when it was flagged for offside. Luciano Acosta fed Brandon Vasquez, who was determined to be just ahead of the D.C. United defense before sending a left-footed shot into the net. A video review confirmed Vasquez was offside.

Dominique Badji had an opportunity for Cincinnati in the 41st minute. Operating from the right side, Badji sent a right-footed shot barely wide to the left of the open net.
