Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco has admitted that losing midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer would be a "huge blow." Having already lost Leon Goretzka to Bayern Munich on a free transfer, Schalke are running danger of also having to allow Meyer, whose contract expires in the summer, a move away from the Veltins Arena. Meyer, 22, is thriving in his new role as a holding midfielder and has yet to announce his plans for the 2018-2019 season. He reportedly has several offers to choose from. "It would be a huge blow," Tedesco told Sportbuzzer about a possible Meyer departure. "But we would not stop playing football at Schalke. Those are things which must not affect us now, but only in the summer break. "Max has our offer on the table and he is thinking about it. I know what we have in Max, but Max also knows what he has in us. I think he never played as much as he's playing right now. He has the position where he can play to his strengths." Tedesco also discussed losing Goretzka to Bayern on a free transfer at the end of the season. "I had high hopes that Leon would stay," he said. "I threw myself into it when we reached the stage whether Leon prolongs or leaves. I spoke to him a lot, showed him perspectives." Tedesco added: "I've done everything what was in my power, but he had to make the decision." Schalke are sixth in the Bundesliga and are on their way to returning to European competition next season. They sit at the back of a five-team group separated by only three points. That group -- Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Schalke -- look to be playing out the three remaining Champions League spots behind runaway leaders Bayern.
