New Shanghai SIPG coach Vitor Pereira set his sights on the club's first Chinese Super League title after taking over from Andre Villas-Boas. Pereira, who also succeeded Villas-Boas at Porto in 2011, was officially appointed on Tuesday and said: "I want to thank SIPG for putting their trust in me. "For me, it's a challenge to coach such an ambitious club. "This is a top challenge. The Chinese Super League is a league with huge potential, with so many top coaches and big name players gathering here. "I hope to do all I can to help the club reach their target. I know my role as head coach as well as my mission and we will do everything to do win the championship. "This is one of the reasons why I accepted this invitation." SIPG have finished second behind Guangzhou Evergrande in two of the last three seasons, with a third-placed finish in 2016 seeing Sven-Goran Eriksson replaced with Villas-Boas. Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Villas-Boas stepped down after just one season in charge to participate in next month's Dakar Rally. Pereira, who won the Portuguese title twice with Porto, stressed the need for unity going into the season. "I am so glad to be here and I'm thrilled to be part of the SIPG family," he said. "Working together must be our main target."
