Tottenham complete signing of striker Clinton Njie from Lyon

Tottenham have completed the signing of Lyon forward Clinton Njie, announcing the player's arrival on Saturday.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino had been keen to bolster his attacking options and said after last weekend's opening-day Premier League defeat to Manchester United that he was hopeful of bringing in another striker.

Njie had been among the top targets to try and ease the goal-scoring burden on last season's 31-goal star Harry Kane, with Roberto Soldado having joined Villarreal and Emmanuel Adebayor also likely to move on.

And speaking after the announcement of a five-year deal, which is subject to international clearance and a work permit, the Cameroon international told the club's official website he was "very happy" to have moved to north London.

"I'm still young, still growing up and it's a big challenge - the Premier League is one of the biggest leagues in the world," Njie, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Saturday, said.

"The club is ambitious, such a big club in England, and I'm ready to give my best to help the club achieve its aims.

"I'm still learning and I'm here to give my best. I just hope I get the chance to give to the club what they are giving to me."

Njie has also been linked with Tottenham's north London rivals Arsenal, with French newspaper L'Equipe claiming they could have made a late bid.
