Manchester United to snap up Newport's Regan Poole - sources

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign highly rated Newport County defender Regan Poole, sources have told ESPN FC.

Poole, 17, is regarded as one of the best young defenders in England's lower leagues and has had trials at United and Liverpool in the past.

The defender, who became Newport's youngest ever player when he started against Shrewsbury in September 2014 at the age of 16 years and 94 days, has also attracted interest from Fulham and Hull City among others.

Poole is thought to have impressed United's coaching team during his trial at Old Trafford and they have been keeping tabs on his progress.

The Red Devils have now firmed up their interest and agreed a six-figure fee for Poole as they look to sign the teenager.

He is seen as one for the future at United and is set to go into the club's under-21 side to continue his development before trying to break into the first team.
