Wolfsburg confident Naldo will sign new contract

Wolfsburg are confident Naldo will sign a new contract at the Volkswagen Arena.

Naldo, 33, is free to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer and has been linked with Manchester United by both local paper Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung and reputable football magazine kicker.

However, Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs is confident the Brazilian centre-back will prolong his stay.

"The talks have been held and we are waiting for Naldo to put pen to paper this week," Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told Wolfsburger Allgemeine on Tuesday. "We are talking about a two-year contract."

Naldo's current contract would have been automatically extended until the summer of 2017 had the club qualified for Europe, but a dismal run of form from early March to early May saw Die Wolfe drop into mid-table.

Despite a 1-0 win over Hamburg at the weekend, Wolfsburg -- last season's runners-up in the Bundesliga -- can finish no higher than their current position of eighth.

Even so, Allofs believes the former Werder Bremen player, who has a German passport, is best served by extending his deal.

He said: "I think that it would be a good decision for Naldo to stay. He has shown how important he can be for the club, not just at Hamburg."
