Breel Embolo attracting interest from Schalke - Basel president Heusler

Schalke have entered the race to sign Basel attacker Breel Embolo, according to the Swiss club.

Embolo, 19, who started for Switzerland in the goalless draw with France at Euro 2016 on Sunday, could be on the move this summer.

On Monday, RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick told German news agency dpa that the club had informed Basel and Embolo's agent that they "are no longer interested in a transfer." Kicker reported that Leipzig were willing to pay €20 million for the player, but that Basel wanted €25m for his services.

However, later that day, Basel president Bernhard Heusler confirmed to kicker that "there is something to it," when asked if Schalke are among the clubs interested in Embolo.

The newspaper added that Manchester United are also in the race for the Switzerland international.

Schalke's new sporting director Christian Heidel has previously said that the club will not "invest a double-digit million sum in one single player," but left the door open should they be able make some money back from sales.

Schalke attacker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been linked with a return to Ajax, while a decision on Leroy Sane's future is expected on Wednesday, with the 20-year-old reportedly wanted by Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
