Genoa sign Lucas Ocampos on loan from Marseille

Genoa have signed Marseille playmaker Lucas Ocampos on loan with the option of making the move a permanent transfer.

Ocampos, 21, has been with OM for a season and a half, having joined from Monaco in a similar deal in February 2015.

The Argentine scored on his debut against Bastia and played a key role under then-coach Marcelo Bielsa, but struggled for game time last season after his compatriot resigned following the opening game of the campaign.

A statement on Genoa's website read: "Genoa Cricket and Football Club announces that it has acquired the rights to the Olympique de Marseille player Lucas Ariel Ocampos. The transfer formula provides for a temporary move with the right of option to buy outright in favour of Genoa CFC.

"The player passed his medical with the club before signing his contract at Villa Rostan [the club's headquarters]."

Marseille also announced the news on their website, which concluded "Thank you Lucas and good luck" in both Spanish and French.
