Leicester signing Nampalys Mendy: Claudio Ranieri can develop me

Nampalys Mendy says Claudio Ranieri knows how to develop him as a player and was one of the main reasons he signed for Leicester City.

Mendy, 24, completed a move from Nice to the Premier League champions on Sunday for a reported fee of £13 million.

The ex-France under-21 midfielder, who has signed a four-year contract, worked under Foxes manager Ranieri at Monaco, helping the principality club earn promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2012-13 season.

"My reunion with him went very well," Mendy told L'Equipe. "I was able to have a first discussion with him and he put me at ease straightaway.

"He was happy to meet me again and it's reciprocal," he added.

"If I've joined Leicester, it's in large part down to him. He knows me and he knows how to develop me -- he already did it perfectly at Monaco.

"I found the same character, true to himself and always happy -- even if he's meticulous and demanding when it comes to work."

Mendy was Leicester's third signing of the summer after goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler and defender Luis Hernandez.

A holding midfielder, he is seen as an ideal replacement for N'Golo Kante, who is wanted by several clubs including Arsenal, and widely expected to leave the Premier League champions during the transfer window.

Kante, 25, is currently on duty with France at Euro 2016 and his future is not expected to be decided until their tournament ends.
