Chelsea youngster Marco van Ginkel has confirmed that he will not rejoin PSV Eindhoven on loan this summer because of the lingering effects of a knee injury.
Van Ginkel spent the second half of last season on loan at the Dutch club after cutting short a loan spell at Stoke City, scoring eight goals in 13 league matches to help them claim the Eredivisie title.
But the 23-year-old did not feature for Chelsea in preseason as he struggled with persistent pain in his knee, and has now confirmed that he will remain at Chelsea's Cobham training complex to complete his rehabilitation.
"Because of physical problems, it unfortunately is not possible for me to join PSV again," Van Ginkel wrote alongside a video posted on Instagram.
Because of physical problems, it unfortunately is not possible for me to join @PSV again. I had a really good time in Eindhoven and winning the Dutch championship felt absolutely amazing. I want to thank all supporters, players and staff members of PSV and maybe we meet again soon! #PSV

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on Saturday, Van Ginkel said: "I've actually been struggling for months with a problem in my knee.
"That was also true during my loan period at PSV last season. Yes, I can actually play and train, and often without that I feel irritation in the knee. But the pain also happens regularly and that bothers me.
"Wherever I play, I want to give 100 percent. Now I do not feel that I can play at that level. That's why I choose [to stay at Chelsea], just to be better."
He said that "under these circumstances it makes no sense to return to PSV right now" but added: "Who knows what might happen in January?"
Van Ginkel's career has stalled since he suffered a serious knee injury in a League Cup tie against Swindon Town only two months after his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Vitesse Arnhem in July 2013.
