Valencia sign Watford's Mario Suarez on season-long loan

Valencia have signed midfielder Mario Suarez from Premier League outfit Watford on a season-long loan deal.

Suarez, 29, arrives at Mestalla after not being included in Hornets manager Walter Mazzarri's squad for their opening day 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Former Atletico Madrid player Suarez struggled to make an impression at Vicarage Road after joining from Fiorentina last January, managing only eight league starts in England, having started just five Serie A games during his short spell with La Viola.

The three times-capped Spain international will bolster a midfield which has lost Andre Gomes, Javi Fuego and Danilo Barbosa during the current transfer window.

Suarez's signing is unlikely to be the last business at Valencia this summer, as new coach Pako Ayestaran and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch have been told they must balance the books.

Ten players have been moved on already, at a profit of about €35 million, but the club is still looking to lower its wage bill with owner Peter Lim reportedly unwilling to invest any more money.

Centre-forward Paco Alcacer and goalkeeper Diego Alves are now being linked with Barcelona, and Arsenal are said to be interested in defender Shkodran Mustafi.
