Reading boss Jaap Stam confirms interest in Man United's Tyler Blackett

Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett is being targeted by Reading, the Championship club's manager Jaap Stam has confirmed.

Former United defender Stam is in his first managerial role, having taken charge in the summer. Blackett, 22, made 12 appearances in all competitions for United under Louis van Gaal in 2014-15 but did not appear last season and spent four months on loan at Celtic.

Stam told Get Reading: "We're still looking for a couple of signings. I know Tyler, not personally, but I know what he can do -- what type of player he is, the way he can play.

"But I don't know yet if it's going to happen. We've shown our interest but I don't know if we will succeed getting him to the club."

Blackett was watching Reading's 2-2 home draw with Brighton on Saturday in the stands. When asked why the player was there, Stam replied: "I think he likes watching good football."
