Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper joins Granada on loan

La Liga side Granada have confirmed the arrival of Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper on a one-year loan deal.

Samper trained with Granada on Friday and the Andalusian club said in a statement that he could go straight into Paco Jemez's squad for Sunday's game against Las Palmas.

The 21-year-old has been at Barca since he was six and progressed through the youth setup before being promoted to the B team, whom he captained last season, in 2013.

He made his debut for the first team in a 2014 Champions League game against APOEL and has since made 10 more appearances for Luis Enrique's side.

This summer he was promoted to the first team, but the competition for a spot in midfield after the signings of Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes mean the Catalan side have deemed it best he spend the season playing regular football elsewhere.

Arsenal have regularly been linked with the talented midfielder but Barca have been reluctant to let go of a player who has previously been compared with Pep Guardiola, Sergio Busquets and Xavi Hernandez.

Along with Munir El-Haddadi, Samper signed a new contract earlier this year, linking him to the club until 2019 and raising his buyout clause to €50 million.
