Newcastle United striker Emmanuel Riviere joins Osasuna on loan

Newcastle United striker Emmanuel Riviere has joined La Liga side Osasuna on loan for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

The French forward moved to Newcastle from Monaco in July 2014 but has been limited to just 31 appearances.

A statement from Osasuna said: "Emmanuel Riviere will play at Osasuna for the 2016-17 campaign. The French striker joins on loan from Newcastle, the club that owns his sporting rights.

"The player passed a medical yesterday and will join the team in training today."

The 26-year-old has scored three goals for the Magpies but has not played for the first team since March.

Newcastle confirmed Riviere's move and said Osasuna have an option to buy the former France Under-21 player at the end of the season.

Osasuna drew 1-1 at Malaga in their La Liga opener and lost 2-0 at home to Real Sociedad last weekend.
