Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi could join Inter Milan or Atletico Madrid next season with the striker's future not yet decided, according to his club's sporting director, Giovanni Carnevali.
Italy under-21 international Berardi turned down the opportunity to join Juventus this summer, preferring instead to remain in Sassuolo with his mentor, coach Eusebio Di Francesco, but it has been reported that Juve nevertheless have an agreement to sign him at the end of the season.
Inter had also expressed an interest in the 22-year-old during the summer and Carnevali has not ruled out them succeeding with another attempt next year, even though he still hopes to convince Berardi to commit his future to the Emilia-Romagna club.
"Berardi chose to stay at Sassuolo, he never said no to Juve," Carnevali told Radio Gr Parlamento. "Maybe he spoke with Inter's representatives, but not with us. If Domenico stays here, we would be delighted -- we can afford to keep him.
"If not, the doors are open to everybody, even Inter, but watch out from abroad too because Atletico also wanted him in July."
Should Berardi leave Sassuolo next summer, the Serie A club have already several players coming through to step into the void, including Matteo Politano and new signings Antonino Ragusa and Federico Ricci.
"Politano is giving us guarantees, but watch out also for [Lorenzo] Pellegrini, [Luca] Mazzittelli, Ricci and Ragusa," he said. "We've practically not even felt the loss of [Sime] Vrsaljko and [Nicola] Sansone.
"[Gregoire Defrel] is improving all the time and I'm sure he will make a name for himself. We're already getting calls from the Premier League for him, but the same goes for him as it does for Berardi: we would like to keep him.
"Our project tends to focus on talented Italians and we're confident about the quality of the new arrivals. [Pol] Lirola is undoubtedly making good ground and we've already agreed with Juve that he will stay with us also next season, while Politano belongs to us -- and bear this name in mind."
