Chelsea tracking Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer - source

Chelsea have been monitoring Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer, a source close to the Turkish club has told ESPN FC.

Kjaer, 27, has been linked with Chelsea in the Turkish press, with reports claiming the Blues have made contact over a January move for the Denmark international.

However, a source close to the player told ESPN FC that they have yet to put forward an offer.

Kjaer has established himself as a first-choice centre-back at Fenerbahce under head coach Dick Advocaat, and has contributed three goals and one assist in 21 appearances.

The source close to the player said Kjaer, who has three years remaining on his contract, has settled into life in Turkey with his family and Fenerbahce are in no rush to sell him. The source added that the Yellow Canaries are unlikely to accept any offers below €15 million.

The Denmark international joined Fenerbahce in 2015 on a €8m deal from Lille, where he was named in the 2013-14 Ligue 1 Team of the Season. The powerful centre-back has experience playing across Europe in Denmark, France, Germany and Italy.

Kjaer was linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer transfer window but ended up staying at Fenerbahce.

UEFA recently named Kjaer in its Europa League team of the group stage after he helped Fenerbahce finish Group A in first place above Manchester United.

Fenerbahce are currently fourth in the Super Lig, 10 points behind leaders Basaksehir but with a game in hand. The Istanbul giants will take on Russian outfit FC Krasnodar in the Europa League round of 32.
