Borussia Monchengladbach set for fresh talks with Mahmoud Dahoud

Borussia Monchengladbach are set for another round of contract negotiations with reported Manchester City and Liverpool target Mahmoud Dahoud.

Dahoud, 21, is one of the most coveted youngsters in the Bundesliga despite having made only 44 top-flight appearances to date.

The Syria-born Germany under-21 international, who has also been linked with moves to Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, is under contract at Borussia Park until 2018, but Gladbach are hopeful he will sign fresh terms with the club. Dahoud turned down their initial offer of a new deal.

"We will hold more talks in the near future," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told kicker. "We want that Mo makes the second and third step here."

Earlier this season, Gladbach ruled out the possibility of Dahoud moving on in January, with Eberl saying that his chances of leaving "are zero percent."

However, at that time Eberl conceded that the club could be forced to sell Dahoud in the summer should he fail to agree a new contract.

Gladbach resume their Bundesliga campaign under new coach Dieter Hecking with an away trip to bottom club Darmstadt on Saturday, with Dahoud set to make his 11th start of the season.

The Foals are currently 14th in the Bundesliga and only have a three-point lead over Hamburg, who sit in the relegation playoff place.
