Demba Ba returns to Besiktas from Shanghai Shenhua

Demba Ba has left Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua to return to Besiktas, the Turkish side confirmed on Tuesday.

Former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker Ba, 31, rejoined the club he left midway through 2015 to move to the CSL after successfully completing a medical on Monday.

Ba was prolific during his time in the China, scoring 14 times in 18 games in the 2016 season before breaking his leg in his side's meeting with cross-city rivals Shanghai SIPG in July.

Despite the injury, which ruled him out of the rest of the season, the Senegal striker finished joint second in the league's scoring charts behind Brazilian Ricardo Goulart of Guangzhou Evergrande.

Ba has not played competitively since sustaining the injury and his place in the Shanghai squad came under threat following the club's signing of Carlos Tevez earlier in the month, with the Argentine signing from Boca Juniors on a two-year contract for a fee of €11 million.
