Cologne striker Anthony Modeste open to Ligue 1 return

Cologne striker Anthony Modeste has said he will not rule out a return to France, suggesting he may like to link up with Mario Balotelli at former club Nice or join Marseille.

Modeste has established himself as one of the Bundesliga's most lethal forwards since moving to Hoffenheim from Bordeaux in 2013.

In Cologne, the French striker has found the net an impressive 32 times in 57 Bundesliga games, including 17 goals this term.

Modeste is under contract with Cologne until 2021 but he told Canal Plus he could be tempted by a switch back to Ligue 1.

"I think you can't close the door to certain clubs," said Modeste, who was born in the Mediterranean city of Cannes. "All the investment that there is at Nice or Marseille, the arrival of great players like Balotelli.

"It's nice. I'm not closing any door."

Modeste, 28, started his career at Nice and made his Ligue 1 debut there as a 19-year-old before joining Bordeaux in 2010. After a successful loan spell at Bastia, where he scored 15 top-flight goals in 36 games during the 2012-13 season, he moved to Germany.
