Darmstadt confirm Kevin Grosskreutz signing for next season

Rock-bottom Bundesliga club Darmstadt have completed the signing of Germany defender Kevin Grosskreutz for next season until June 2019.

The 28-year-old former Borussia Dortmund right-back joins Darmstadt after leaving Stuttgart last month and boasts 23 goals from 186 German top-flight appearances during his career, as well as winning the World Cup with his country in 2014.

Manager Torsten Frings told his club's official website: "I am very happy and proud that we have managed to get a player like Kevin Grosskreutz to Darmstadt and to convince him of our way.

"Kevin has an incomprehensible experience, is world champion and has played on an absolute top level. He's going to be a very important building block for our team in the coming season."

Grosskreutz added: "I can't wait to play for Darmstadt 98. Torsten Frings made great efforts to get me and together with those responsible convinced me that this is the right step for me. Like at all my other clubs I will give it my all so that we can be successful."

Darmstadt are strong candidates for relegation this season after claiming just two wins from their last 20 league matches which has left them stranded at the bottom and 14 points from safety with six matches remaining.
