Yuri Berchiche to undergo Paris Saint-Germain medical - Real Sociedad chief

Left-back Yuri Berchiche is set to be Paris Saint-Germain's first signing this summer after Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay confirmed an offer from the French capital outfit has been accepted.

The Basque club's leader revealed that the 27-year-old, who was a reported target of Manchester City earlier this year, has been granted permission to undergo a medical with the Ligue 1 giants.

"Today a written offer for Yuri from PSG arrived and he is now allowed to undergo a medical," Aperribay is quoted as saying by Sociedad's official Twitter feed.

Yuri has attracted the attention of top European clubs after making 35 league starts to help Eusebio Sacristan's men finish sixth in La Liga in the 2016-17 campaign.

Earlier, the defender's representative admitted that PSG were closing in on his client.

Yuri is under contract with Sociedad until June 2020 and his agent is Pere Guardiola, brother of Manchester City coach Pep.

"A deal between Sociedad and PSG could be reached in the coming day," Ander Larrea, one of Yuri's representatives at Media Base Sports, told AS.

"We are waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement. If that happens, Yuri will leave."

PSG will pay around €15 million, much less than the Spaniard's €40m release clause, according to Marca.

Marca reports that Yuri has already picked up his personal belongings at the club's Zubieta training ground and that his move to Paris is imminent.

Sociedad begin preseason training on Friday, while PSG's got underway at their Camp des Loges facility on Tuesday.

However, Larrea says his client still has to agree personal terms with PSG.

"The player does not have an agreement with PSG. He has only spoken to them but nothing more," Larrea said.

A new left-back is a must for PSG after the retirement of former Brazilian player Maxwell back in May and regular starter Layvin Kurzawa still recovering from season-ending surgery last campaign.

Yuri, who had spells at Tottenham and Cheltenham Town earlier in his career, arrived at Sociedad in the summer of 2012 but spent the next two seasons on loan at Eibar.

He broke into Sociedad's first team in 2014 and has made 77 appearances for the La Liga outfit.
