Jeremy Menez completes transfer to Club America in Mexico

French forward Jeremy Menez has completed a move to Club America, the Liga MX giants announced on Friday.

"Happy and proud to be part of the biggest club in Mexico," Menez wrote on Twitter. "I promise the fans to give my all for the shirt. See you very soon."

Las Aguilas had openly courted the 30-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan player ahead of the 2018 Clausura, with Menez available following a disappointing spell in Turkey.

Menez leaves Antalyaspor after just seven months in which he failed to score in nine total appearances, and just three starts.

His earlier career was split between Ligue 1 -- with the likes of Monaco, PSG and Bordeaux -- and Serie A with Roma and AC Milan. His best season came in 2014-2015 for Milan, when he netted 16 goals and finished fifth in the Serie A scoring chart.

Menez has also made 24 appearances for France and scored at Euro 2012, though he has not played for Les Bleus since 2013.

He joins up with Miguel Herrera's side as they prepare to open the Clausura in Liga MX on Sunday in search of their first league title since the 2014 Apertura.

Club America reached the semifinal of the 2017 Apertura tournament but lost 4-0 on aggregate to eventual champions Tigres, and Las Aguilas have been bullish in the January transfer window so far.

America also confirmed the Racing winger Andres Ibarguen on Friday and has been pursuing PSV Eindhoven's Luuk de Jong, with Herrera saying this week that the Dutch striker was his top priority.

Herrera said the club was on the look out for a player "with a bigger name" than Tigres' French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, who has excelled since moving to Mexico.

The club also brought in U.S. international Joe Corona in the Liga MX draft last month. Striker Henry Martin and defender Emanuel Aguilera also came in the trade which saw Paraguay international Pablo Aguilar head to Tijuana, while defender Miguel Samudio departed for Queretaro.
