Troy Deeney looks set to stay at Watford after West Bromwich Albion opted to move for Daniel Sturridge ahead of him, sources have told ESPN FC.
West Brom had considered a move for Deeney as they looked to bring in a new striker before Wednesday's transfer deadline, but switched their attention to doing a loan deal for Liverpool's Sturridge.
Newcastle looked to be favourites for Sturridge's signature until West Brom made a late move for the England international, and he decided to make the move to the Hawthorns above St James' Park.
It means West Brom have shelved their interest in Deeney and the Watford captain looks set to remain at Vicarage Road when the transfer window closes on Wednesday night.
Deeney joined Watford in 2010 from Walsall for £500,000 and has gone on to score 102 goals in 234 league games.
With Deeney set to stay, one player who could be on the way out is Stefano Okaka.
Okaka has found himself out of favour with Watford for the majority of the season and he is ready to move on in search of regular first-team football.
A number of clubs at home and abroad have expressed an interest in the Italian international, but Fulham have moved quickly to agree a deal with Watford.
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has been looking to bring in a new striker this month to boost Fulham's promotion bid, and he thinks Okaka will be a perfect addition to his side.
